Having been working as an Ecological Intern for almost a month now, Laura and I are quickly getting acquainted with the ins and outs of the company. We have, in this time, discovered that ecological consultancy is not quite the walk in the park (or rather walk in the development site) that one might think. Already we have learned a lot about such things as the office work required to keep a survey running smoothly.
So, when we are not out learning about bat risk assessments, putting up bird boxes, planting trees or doing a great crested newt surveys, we have helped with purchase orders, desk studies, the web site and project management. We learned how to produce quotes and maps and washed of over 100 newt traps to the great relief of the assistant ecologist who could pass the task on.
We look expectantly to the busy season when we will partake in all kinds of surveys and hopefully, by the end of our internship, we will have gained many invaluable experiences both in the field and in the office.
