EcoNorth’s 2021 Bat Training Sessions

EcoNorth's Bat Training Sessions 2021

EcoNorth’s 2021 bat training sessions are being held in small groups over a number of dates during May, with a maximum of six people in each group (in line with current government guidance for Covid-19).  Dates and locations will be fixed around surveyor availability and suitable weather conditions.

The training sessions will start at around 20:30hrs and run to approximately 22:30hrs.

We will be using a number of publicly accessible sites around Newcastle and Morpeth which have free parking nearby.  During the training sessions we will walk around a range of habitats with bat detectors, so attendees should get a chance to hear a number of bat species at the start of the season.

We will run through basic bat identification and survey methodology.  This will include identifying potential bat roosting features of buildings and trees, vantage point and transect surveys.  We will also show attendees how to use EcoNorth’s recording forms and bat recording equipment.

Please note that it is a requirement that new surveyors attend a training session.  If you are interested in attending one of EcoNorth’s bat training sessions and/or undertaking bat surveys for EcoNorth this season, please contact our Survey Organiser, Ben Smurthwaite, at surveys@econorth.co.uk
