Principal Ecologist – salary up to £49k, depending on experience, plus participation in profit share and pension schemes

EcoNorth has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Ecologist to join our team of dedicated Ecologists. With a great and growing range of ongoing projects, EcoNorth is seeking to appoint a highly experienced individual to this lead role within the organisation, which comprises a great opportunity to shape the company and the projects we work on, lead complex elements of project delivery, promote staff development and contribute towards the organisation’s Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Management systems.

EcoNorth is a small team which is currently growing to support the requirements of our clients. The role would be ideally suited to someone with:

  • Solid experience of commercial ecological consultancy and management of all aspects of both large scale and small scape projects, from feasibility through to construction stage.
  • Experience of managing and coordinating inputs from a wider team of Ecologists including subcontractors and other specialist disciplines.
  • Solid understanding of the implementation of the legislative framework for Nature Conservation in the UK (and Ireland).
  • Species-specific specialisms including holding individual survey licences and experience of holding mitigation licences, particularly bats and/or great crested newts.
  • Solid knowledge of habitats and habitat management principals throughout the UK (particularly Scotland and Northern England).
  • Experience of assessing and inputting to project design to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Experience of business development.

EcoNorth’s core team is based in Cramlington, Northumberland, just north of Newcastle upon Tyne, and services client requirements primarily throughout Northern England and Scotland. However, we would also welcome applications from candidates based in Scotland, North West England or Humberside who would consider working remotely for part of the time.
